Physiotherapy Services in Rugby
Pain that keeps coming back?
Rest it and it settles. Get going again and it comes straight back. That cycle is exhausting, and it usually means whatever is actually causing the problem was never found in the first place.
At our Rugby clinic on Cottage Leap, we start with a proper assessment: what is driving it, why it keeps returning, and what it will realistically take to fix. Then you get a plan built around your shifts, your training and the rest of your week.
Not a temporary patch. A body you can trust again.
Physio in Rugby that starts at the origin of the problem
Pain relief on its own is a short-term win. What you actually want is to understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what to do about it. So that is where we begin, with the cause rather than the symptom.
Your first appointment gives you a clear assessment, a straight explanation in plain English, and a plan shaped around how you move, how you train and how you spend your week. It is built on established physiotherapy practice and years of work with active people across Warwickshire.
Plenty of clinics stop once the pain quietens down. We keep going. We look at strength, movement and load, so the same issue does not reappear six weeks later wearing a slightly different hat.
You will always know what we are doing and why. The same standard applies at every stage, from assessment and treatment through to rehab and follow-up. That consistency is what turns a good session into a result that holds.

What to expect at your Rugby physiotherapy appointment
Your first appointment is about getting answers and walking out with a plan that makes sense. No jargon, no rushing, and no vague “come back next week and we will see how it goes”.
1. A conversation that actually helps
We start by talking through what is going on, what you have already tried, and what you are trying to get back to. You talk, we listen, and the picture comes together. It is a conversation, not an interrogation.
2. A clear look at how your body is moving
Then we assess your mobility, strength and movement patterns. Straightforward tests, nothing dramatic, but they show us what is coping fine and what is quietly struggling. Most people find it genuinely interesting to see it laid out.
3. Hands-on treatment and tweaks you can use straight away
Once we know what is driving it, we get to work. Your session might include:
- Manual therapy
- Joint mobilisation
- Soft-tissue techniques
- Movement coaching
- Targeted rehab exercises
We explain each thing as we do it, so nothing about your treatment feels like a mystery.
4. A personal plan that actually works
You will leave with a physio plan that fits your week rather than taking it over. No shopping list of equipment. No two-hour daily routine. And no exercises that require the flexibility of a gymnast.
Just practical mobility, strength and stability work that fits around shifts, training and family. The aim is not only to get you pain free, it is to keep you that way.
Who do we treat at our Rugby clinic?
Rugby is a town that keeps moving. Warehouse floors, building sites, rugby pitches, running routes and a great many desks. We see all of it come through the door.
Book in with us if:
- You lift, load or stand all day and your back has had quite enough of it.
- You play contact sport and want to come back properly, not just get nodded through as fit.
- You run at Rugby parkrun or out around Draycote Water and something keeps flaring up.
- You commute out of Rugby station and spend far more hours seated than you would like.
- You have had pain long enough that you have quietly stopped expecting it to go.
- You have had surgery and want to rebuild real strength, not just get your range back.
If something is stopping you moving the way you want to, we will work out why and build you back stronger.
Not sure physiotherapy is the right call? Give the Rugby clinic a ring and we will talk it through honestly, including telling you if it is not what you need.

Meet your physiotherapist in Rugby
Sam Travill – Senior Physiotherapist
Sam has spent close to ten years in physiotherapy across elite sport and the NHS. He qualified in 2015 with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy and started out in elite women’s football at academy and senior level, before moving into the NHS working alongside physiotherapists in orthopaedics. He returned to university in 2019 to complete his MSc in Physiotherapy.
Rugby union runs through a good deal of his career. Sam worked in amateur rugby first as a sports therapist and later as a physiotherapist, leading teams on injury prevention and rehabilitation. He went on to spend nearly two years in first-class county cricket, managing youth and senior athletes through a wide range of injuries in a high-performance setting, before moving into private practice with Origin Physio.
He has since completed further training in developing young fast bowlers, hip physiotherapy, the sporting wrist and hand, and cognitive functional therapy.
Sam’s view is a simple one: to address the problem, you first have to understand the person. Every plan he writes starts with making sure you actually understand what is going on and why.
The Rugby clinic runs Monday to Thursday, with early starts on Mondays and evening slots on Wednesdays, so you can usually book around a working day.
What happens after your first session?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer, and that is deliberate.
Some people need two or three sessions to get back on track. Others do better with a longer plan focused on rebuilding strength and confidence over time. What matters is that your care is shaped around you rather than a preset package.
After your first appointment we will talk openly about:
- What we have found
- What progress should look like
- The best next steps for you
On average clients have around five follow-up sessions, though it always depends on the individual and the root cause of the issue. Most people book a regular weekly slot at the Rugby clinic and keep it.
